Motivation when training by yourself: 🏋️‍♂️⁠
⁠
While it's great to have a training buddy, you can't always rely on them to get you through your sessions. I’ve been extremely fortunate to have my incredible training partner for the last 6+ years. Through that time there have been phases where our schedules were not aligned, and other obstacles. ⁠
⁠
This brings on the need for a whole different mentality… especially when it’s leg day. ⁠
⁠
➡️ One thing I really enjoy is knowing I have something to beat from the session prior. I always track my training routines and  aim to improve from session to session. This is not necessarily weight increasing, it may simply be 1 repetition in a set. Progress is progress at the end of the day. If you are a well trained individual, you can sometimes be splitting hairs when it comes to progress. ⁠
⁠
➡️ One thing that really helps me get through those testing sessions is writing down the number of reps I want before even completing them. I find this flicks a switch in me that helps me step up a gear to avoid any disappointment. I also picture in my head the physique I want and remind myself nothing good comes easy. ⁠
⁠
➡️ One last thing is I find a good lot of tunes, which really helps me flick that mental switch. I might go for a little walk between sets, put my favourite tune on and say a few words to myself. By the time I am back at that particular exercise its game on and in the sniper zone. ⁠

I’ve found I have used these methods when training solo over the years is beneficial. No doubt everyone has a different method that makes them tick and works for them. Be sure to know you're not alone when you are looking for ways to step it up training solo.

So how can you prepare for a better night's sleep? ⁠

💤 Set regular sleep and wake times. This will help improve the bodies natural clock (the circadian rhythm).⁠
⁠
💤 Make sure your room is dark. The body is sensitive to light exposure, as normally sunrise and sunset can help with the natural body clock. Having a dark room can help with melatonin release, which is a hormone to help you sleep.⁠
⁠
💤 Minimize technology. Before bed, if your eyes are exposed to technology, this can confuse the body clock into thinking it's still daylight. This can cause that tired but wired feeling and affect the release of melatonin.⁠
⁠
